FAQs

What are your fees?

For specific session rates, please refer to the services page.

Please note: If the sessions go over time significantly, the fee will represent the additional session time.

Fees are payable at the time that services are rendered.  Please discuss with Biannka if you wish to arrange alternative payment arrangements.

Payment is to be made before or immediately after the session. Cancellations require 24 hour notice or 100% of the full fee may be payable.

What is the difference between counselling + psychotherapy?

Counselling is more often short-term therapy where you might be trying to work through a particular situation or issue you may be experiencing.  The issues are more on the conscious-level and are able to be resolved with relative ease with the support of a therapist.  Psychotherapy supports you to bring more awareness to areas of your life or patterns of behaviour that may be impacting on your life now, but which are currently hidden from your conscious awareness.

How long + how often will I need to see you for?

During our first session, we will negotiate a certain amount of time and frequency of sessions.  It will take a few weeks for us to get to know each other  so I generally suggest that we commit to weekly sessions for up to four to six weeks and then renegotiate.  I find committing to a particular number of sessions together is also helpful as it allows you and I to continue therapy, even when it gets uncomfortable.  This is generally when we are close to having much greater awareness of previously unconscious patterns.  It all depends on your individual circumstance of course and we will work together to ensure we both feel comfortable with our agreement.

I work a little differently with couples and have outlines this on the services page.

How do I know if I need a therapist?

I believe everybody needs a therapist but perhaps I’m a little biased… From my experience, you know you need a therapist when you’ve tried different approaches with issues and you’re still not feeling better or the same issue keeps turning up in your life.  If you are on any medication for depression and/or anxiety, I also believe a therapist is imperative for you to heal the underlying issues and live a good and meaningful life.  Essentially, a therapist provides support to help you navigate life with more ease.

Am I able to use a mental health plan with you?

Not at this stage.

What to expect for my first therapy session?

Our first session together will be mostly spent getting to know each other.  We will discuss some of the ways psychotherapy works, so you know what to expect as we move through our sessions.  We will discuss the types of things that you would like to work on during our sessions and we will establish an agreement with regards to how many sessions we will complete initially together and the frequency.  I will also answer any questions you might have and allow anything else to emerge.
